Welcome to Hybrid Driving School, dedicated to helping disabled people to drive safely. The concept of dis-ability We accentuate the ability part of dis-ability because we see driving as a window to the world. We bring out the best in you and your ability instead of focussing on what you can’t do. About your driving instructors: I’m ex-Army as my colleague Gez. Professionally trained (QEF.org.uk) and experienced in a wide range of conditions since 2017, I’m supported and mentored by Gez who’s taught even longer. I’m new to the area, having trained at QEF’s specialist assessment centre (2017) so Gez and I bring different strengths to the table. Teaching in London meant I had to be absolutely on the ball and since taking pupils to over 25 different test centres, I’ve lost count! Drivers with diverse needs I’ve also taught dyslexic students in a college setting when qualifying to teach further education students. Every pupils’ needs are different so I can’t say I have experience of every condition but I’m always learning and take CPD advice from my sister (who specialises in autism spectrum) and Gez, who is more qualified in hi-tech solutions such as driving a van by joystick. Automatic lessons My day-job is teaching adults to drive in the automatic car where spacial awareness is not as it should be, where nervousness is common or just overwhelmed by manual gears. Coupled to this could be coordination development problems (dyspraxia) which needs time and patience to overcome. This is where I come in - I recently taught a doctor who couldn’t find her way round a hospital - we did tiny steps + repetition to build confidence. She’s now driving confidently to work - not reliant on buses. Learning with Hybrid, you’re not just accessing an automatic car with a range of adaptions capable of overcoming physical limitations (such as cerebral palsy or missing limb), you’re tapping into an incredibly positive student-centric learning method, tailored to match your learning needs. John’s background Having taught pupils to drive since 2014 (except for a 2 year COVID gap), I’ve been improving ever since. Due to COVID, I had to re-qualify so I’m up to date with all recent Theory questions since doing everything again from scratch.
