Come and visit a little Victorian Tea Room in the South Devon village of Abbotskerswell.
Owners Kevin and Samantha Babbini pride themselves on their superb cuisine freshly prepared daily by Kevin. Thanks to his Italian roots Kevin first learnt to make fresh pasta with his grandmother in Italy. This was the start of a lifetime love of cooking.
Today Kevin has 25 years of very varied experience; from the Savoy Hotel kitchens to the QE2. For the last 8 years he was head chef in the restaurant at the Hole in the Wall, Torquay's oldest pub. Now running his own restaurant, the aim at Babbinis is to serve delicious food at very reasonable prices. Their breakfasts are currently from £4.20, starters/desserts from £2.50 and mains from £6.00
They serve an all day breakfast, light lunches and mouth watering tea time treats, both the traditional Devon variety with Scones and Cream plus the option of a cooked High Tea.
Kevin's produce is British. Try the sustainably caught fresh fish from Brixham or local sausages from Newton Abbot. Check out the daily Specials Board for mouthwatering dishes on top of the usual menu. Kevin and Sam are keen gardeners and grow their own salads and herbs at home.
While Kevin is the artist on a plate, Samantha excels with fabric and paint. Her earlier studies of Art and Interior Design have found an outlet in the decor, don't miss her mural in an unexpected location. The romantic floral wallpaper sets off the delicate bone china all purchased at local antique and charity shops. The atmosphere is pure vintage! Their collection of unusual teapots make a quirky addition to the setting; choose your favourite for your tea!
Samantha's role now is Front of House. Her years of working at the busy, award winning Clock Tower pub in Torquay have honed her skills in service and hospitality.
Everyone is welcome at Babbinis, even well behaved dogs! Samantha and Kevin have been thrilled by local support in the village as well as the interest shown by walkers and ramblers exploring the surrounding countryside. Babbinis is only a few miles South of the historic Templer Way and also not too far from the stunning South West Coast Path. There are beautiful public footpaths right in to the village; you can check out more details on the OS Explorer Map No 110. And for those who travel by bike it's brilliantly placed for a lunch stop - there's even a traffic free route for part of the way from Newton Abbot.
Something new and popular are the Themed Evenings when Babbinis open with a special Italian, French or Spanish flavour. Do keep an eye open for the dates and reserve early as these nights book up quickly. As Kevin and Samantha do not currently have a liquor licence customers are welcome to bring their own wine. There is no corkage charge for this particular bonus.
Babbinis is also available for private dining and parties - plus if you'd prefer to bring the party home they provide outside catering as well.
Whether you are a party of 1 or 41 the welcome and the cuisine at Babbinis is second to none. Just give them a call or simply pop in to discuss your party's requirements with Sam and Kevin
