Vintage Gift Shop is an online shop facilitating the custodianship of antique and vintage objets d’art. Our belief is there are substantial objets d’art already in existence which can presented as gifts without having to utilise the earth’s raw materials in order to mass produce new ones. We enjoy our role in this process and a passion for the presence of times gone by, nostalgia, style and reminiscence. Buying vintage and antiques and reduces landfill, reduces carbon emissions, reduces consumption of new goods from abroad and preserves our heritage for future generations. For example, a recent report highlighted that the annual emissions of an antique piece can be as little as one sixteenth of those of its new equivalent. There are no additional greenhouse gases being produced as a result of its purchase, no rain forests being depleted or additional raw materials used. We are very conscious of carbon footprint and therefore acquire our goods locally and use recycled packaging materials.
To demonstrate the above, you only have to consider the age of our items which range from 30 to 100+ years old. The original costs of these items represent tremendous value for money considering their life cycle.
We offer a range of gifts through the various eras, from antique into the first half of the 20th Century, including art nouveau, art deco, 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Our diverse categories include a specialism in antique and vintage silver. We love the organic flowing shapes of art nouveau evident in Charles Horner’s designs. In contrast the geometric shapes of art deco and its jazz influence express a contemporary look and are evident in our selection of light shades and mirrors.
Our vintage gifts can enhance period, including retro and contemporary interior designs. For example the quirky asymmetric designs of the 1950s can provide a perception of fun as the content threatens to escape its form through its expression.
