The Museum of Cannock Chase site was once home to the Valley Colliery, the training pit for thousands of young men beginning their working lives in the local coal industry.
The pit has gone and in its place are over 30 acres of green space on the edge of Cannock chase, at the gateway to Hednesford Hills Nature Reserve.
Permanent galleries tell the social, industrial and domestic history of Cannock Chase, including the story of coal mining, life on the home front during World War II and the history of toys and games. The museum also hosts a programme of changing temporary art exhibitions throughout the year.
To round off your visit, our coffee shop serves a selection of hot and cold drinks, cakes and snacks. Or why not picnic in our beautiful surroundings and then take a walk over Hednesford Hills? We also have a selection of gifts and souvenirs in our museum gift shop including pocket money toys, local books and maps.
The museum is open all year round, except for two weeks at Christmas and New year. Our opening times are as follows:
Easter to the end of September - Daily, 11am - 5pm
October to Good Friday - Monday - Friday, 11am - 4pm
Last admissions 30 minutes before closing.
Open bank holidays throughout the summer season.
General admission is free of charge.
