Unearth the amazing stories of Basing House, the nationally important historical ruins of the largest private house in Tudor England which suffered at the hands of Oliver Cromwell during the English Civil War. Explore the Great Barn, the ruins of Basing House and the picturesque walled garden. Check out the LEGO models of the site too which are on display around the attraction which demonstrate how magnificent the new and old Basing Houses were when they were still standing.
Enter the site at the Visitor Centre where you'll find interpretative displays about the site, light refreshments, gift shop, toilets, baby changing facilities and the hiring of an MP3 player with audio tours about the house during the Tudor and Civil War periods. Free car parking which is a short walk to the Visitor centre.
Open Saturdays to Thursdays 1 March - 31 October, 11am - 4pm. Closed Fridays.
On occasions the Great Barn may be closed due to a private function - please check website for details of these dates. Dogs on leads welcome. Please see our website for a variety of family friendly events throughout the season such as Civil War re-enactments, Tudor Day, Woolly week, workshops, music performances, summer holiday activities and more. Great place for a picnic too.
