The Royal Musselburgh Golf Club, founded in 1774. Originally played over the famous 9 hole links course situated at Levenhall, Musselburgh. In 1926 the move was made to the present location at Prestongrange House, Prestonpans. This engaging parkland course was designed by James Braid and affords wonderful vistas over Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth. The front nine provides a fair challenge, but beware the 'Sting in the tail': The final third of the course can make or break a score. The tough four hole stretch from the long par four 13th includes the 'gully', a par three (14th)where to be short is to court disaster, followed by one of the best par fours in the Lothian's. From the medal tee at the 15th, huddled tight beside trees to the left, a precision drive is required to find the roller coasting fairway. From there, a long iron is played over an uphill approach to a tilting green. Royal Musselburgh has in its possession a silver cup, known as the 'Old Cup' dating from 1774. This is the oldest cup in the world still played for competitively today. The club was privileged to the host World Junior Open in July 2002.
