This sparkling new version of the classic 1916 comedy finds a new home in 1980s Northern Quarter.
‘It’s a man’s world and you girls should keep within your boundaries and do as you’re told!‘
Tib Street, Manchester, 1987. Hari Hobson thinks he rules the roost at his tailor’s shop - but in reality it’s his eldest daughter Durga who’s the brains of the operation. She keeps things running, while her sisters Sunita and Ruby are sneaking off to the Hacienda, in clothes that their father disapproves of. When he announces that Durga is over the hill at 30 and ‘too useful to get rid of’ – it’s the final straw. She finds a husband, opens a business and has the last laugh - in Tanika Gupta’s gloriously witty update of this brilliant northern comedy.

Housed in one of the most beautiful buildings in Manchester city centre, the Royal Exchange Theatre has a varied programme that ranges from comedy, music, drama to family shows.
The Theatre is a spectacular seven-sided, glass-walled capsule, suspended in the centre of the historic Cotton Exchange. This unique design means all seats are less than nine metres from the circular stage. The Studio is a smaller 90-seat flexible venue hosting touring and new productions.
Past productions have included Maxine Peake in A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, Don Warrington in KING LEAR and the hugely successful Christmas musicals SWEET CHARITY and THE PRODUCERS.
