Bubba Q serves up dishes inspired by the good ol’ American art of barbecue, giving an object lesson in the beauty of so-called dirty food in the process. From the inferno (scorching-hot deep-fried chicken wings) to the dirty donut (yep, that’s a burger drizzled with maple syrup and served in an actual doughnut) Bubba Q revels in everything that is full-on, piled-high and slow-cooked about the land of the brave. Needless to say, it’s a lot of fun. Amid the menu hyperbole are some real gems – slow-cooked beef brisket has a full-bodied depth of flavour, while BBQ pit beans are so smoky you’ll be surprised they don’t come with a wheezing cough. Hush puppies (deep fried cornbread) dipped in chilli jam are a must and the table groans with a selection of mustard and BBQ sauces to smother anything you fancy. It’s a big, gleeful affair that will leave you sticky-fingered and with a huge grin on your face.
